Autobio Comic subsitute page

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 11:39 PM
I had a long day at work and drawing comic today was a bit difficult. To keep 'on track' I scribbled out this random autobio comic from an actual event that happened to me at work.

I work at Target, typically in the Garden Center. Today after lunch I was helping stock stuff in Health and Beauty. This happened to me in the hair color aisle.

I'll hopefully post another page of American Nabe tomorrow! :D

So I had a bad case of the I Dun Wanna over the weekend due to lack of sleep. I actually didn't have any idea how to start this new "chapter" (although it's hardly a chapter).

Combine that with no actual script to follow and me skipping the thumbnail stage (bad idea) it turned into a nightmare.

I do not recommend to anyone my process of making comics...

Okay, so I've been doing inked pages instead of pencilled ones. I guess I'm about halfway through with everything at this point, which is cool.

The evil bastard in me wants to see you copy this and start playing with it at events.

The sensible adult in me still wants you to do this but doesn't want to be any where near you when your playing with it.

So I missed a full week, but wow, what a week it was. Crazy hectic. I'm caught up now so you get a big old bundle of animal-loving comics. Six comics in one post - enjoy!

NanoMangO 10 - Spunky the Lover )
Spunky is the cuddle-buddy for all the other kids. Rats, ferrets, cats...

NanoMangO 11 - Meet the Cats )
Merlin goes by other names even more inappropriate than this.

NanoMangO 12 - Wake Up Call )
Cats really need to learn that night time means sleep time.

NanoMangO 13 - Cat-In-A-Box )
Pretty sure it's not just OUR cats with this strange infatuation.

NanoMangO 14 - Pooper Scooper )
Not. Even. Kidding.

NanoMangO 15 - Meet the Pups )

Yes! I honestly did not think I was going to catch up and that I was a lost cause. I did these all in one night (well mostly). Very proud. Also - all true stories. Seriously.

Was made of steam-powered awesomeness! A huge thankyou to all my panelists, contestants, and general eye-candy. I kept hearing over and over "OMG I've never seen so many amazing costumes".

Of course, pics will be dribbling in in the days and weeks to come but here is a sample to get you started

Hey Kids! Welcome to Week 3! Is everyone ready for the final push? Or are we all crying and hiding under our blankets?

I may or may not be getting the swine flu again. D: Ever since going on my college tour I've just been wanting to sleep. z.z I could have just over exerted myself over all the hills and wearing too many layers. X_X

Also 24 minutes ago WWII in HD started on the History Channel. It's going to be a week long event and if the first 24 minutes is any indication I'm going to be crying like a baby at the end of it. X_X It's WEIRD seeing all the archival footage in it's original color when all I've ever seen is black and white. :O

Anyway! Have some happy plant boys! Today we learn more about soil conditioners. :3 12 Boards today. :D

A Plush a Day Challenge: Day 5 - Goth BunnyA Plush A Day: Goth Bunny

In order to make myself use up this embarrassment of tshirt material, I am instituting a Plush a Day Challenge to myself. Essentially, I have to make some sort of plush creature every day.

Obviously, this picture had to be taken at night, as Abigail (oh, sorry, she's changed her name to "Lille Skutt") doesn't really make an appearance until after the sun has gone down.

To get this picture, I had to catch her between her two favorite activities - gazing out the window and writing in her journal.

For anyone in the Brisbane Australia districts, or hell even if you're from anywhere else. I'm trekkin from Sydney for this affair cos its just too cool to miss! Brisbane's Premier Steampunk nightclub is having its first birthday! Can you believe its already been a year??

And what a night we have in store for you!

Club 320 will be transformed into dual rooms of sensory overload featuring the talents of:

No Standing Cello Quartet
Opalesque Bellydance Troupe
Burlesque by Red Devotchkin
Roving Performance by Elke Pixie
The PB Audio Corps

The icing on the cake? Voodoo Lulu Alternative Clothing struts the boards with a fashion preview of visual magnificence.

Are you reeling? A little hot under those crisp collars and tight-laced corsets? We certainly are. And that isn't all.

Prometheus Bound plays host to a celebration of Razorjack, the "hard-boiled SF noir" from the embarrassingly talented John Higgins; better known for his work on Judge Dredd, 2000AD, Hellblazer, The Hills Have Eyes, Batman: The Killing Joke, and Watchmen.

PB will be partying on an international scale, with Com.X holding a sister party in the UK. To celebrate (and possibly tear holes in the fabric of reality), anyone showing up in a Twist Bitch costume gets discounted entry. Want to know more? Download the 22 page teaser here; then visit your friendly purveyors of comic-y glory at Ace Comics Brisbane City for the trade collection.

On top of that we are running a raffle. Not your usual pay-some-money-to-possibly-win-something-you-really-don't-want kind of raffle.

We have Prize packs galore! Full of fantabulous goodies from Wondermark by David Malki (yes THAT Wondermark, the comic strip of Victorian glee), Dr. Steel, Com.X comics, PB's own bits and pieces and an assortment of other deliciousness.

Have no fear, for we will still be running our patented brand of audience participatory freebie giveaways. But be warned, the trivia will be harder and we are introducing charades.

Doors shall be opening one hour early, 7pm to be precise, so that we may get through all of the above.

For now we must depart in search of tea. It will be a pleasure to see you on Saturday, 21st November at Club 320!

--The PB Crew

When: Saturday 21st November 2009 -- From 7PM

Where: Club 320, Basement Entrance, Cnr Leichhardt & Boundary Sts Spring Hill.

I'm really lucky to live near a community center with an open pottery lab. Here are some of the pots I've made recently.

Green Bowl

I like how the colors came out on this one. The blue sorta sneaks around inside the green.

The others did not come out as well. I think there was something wrong with the white glaze that day.

Paper Mache Garden Divas

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 5:15 PM
I made these awhile back, posting now.

Garden Divas )

On Friday it was the 13th, and I went to a club night where you either had to come as a vampire or a zombie, with some stage acts related to various films of the genre. I had a silver heatproof tablecloth hanging about, and decided to go as a zombie astronaut (my boyfriend went as a zombie hick)

pattern.JPG

I used a 1960s dress pattern for a simple shift dress, easy to get on without fastenings, and without too many seams to weaken the foil.

arrggh brains .... )
A friend of mine sent me a link to an online copy of a Victorian book called Fancy Dresses Described; or, What to Wear at Fancy Balls.

It is mostly for women, but there is a short section talking about men's wear. There's pictures and descriptions for the rest, and I thought some people here might find some interesting inspiration :) Seeing as it is a Victorian book, there are some horrible racial stereotypes, though -_-

I stumbled upon these two vintage Edwardian patterns today, very lovely and lacy. Imagine either one of these in the softest of wool lace yarn, or possibly silk...

Christmas presents

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 1:35 PM
Every year my one friend rotates her Christmas decorations between a Snowman Christmas, Santa Christmas, and Penguin Christmas. She has a lot of time on her hands, lol. This year is a Snowman Christmas, so for her birthday in October I made her the snowman off of the Lion Brand website.

For Christmas I decided to make her the penguin and santa off of the Lion website, too, so she has a complete set.

Now I just have to wait to give them to her. That's the hardest part, lol!

We've (Almost) Got a Photobook

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 11:10 PM
Spoiler!

It's deadline day, but I'm still waiting on a final handful of pictures at a higher resolution and am in no terrible hurry.
At the moment we're at a few but respectable twenty pages.

Many of the volunteers from the beginning sent me a Flickr account link and told me to go to town, which I would have loved to do, but I cannot use the images at resolutions to be found on the internet if we want a project of any quality to come of them.

If you or a loved one are one of those who thought you contributed and yet do not see yourself listed, please give me a holla' at kanirakoba at gmail dot com so we can talk 300dpi.

20 pages is small but respectable, however, so we're going to the printers as soon as my final people check in. One of them has the full resolution for the image on the cover, so she's a tad important.

Which brings up a second point. I wanted to purchase the maiden copy myself so I could give it a look through for errors to be fixed before it's released publicly, but because of where I'm located Blurb takes about 2~3 weeks to get anything to me. Wrong side of the planet, apparently.

For those featured and/or those intending to purchase, does the wait outweigh the risk?
I swear I will just die if it's released and someone's name is spelled wrong.

Thanks all!
